Superlatives

Superlatives are used to express the highest quality or degree of a characteristic. They can be both adjectives and adverbs.

In Spanish, relative superlatives are formed using a definite noun (with an definite article or possessive pronoun etc.) followed by comparative form of the adjective (often using más or menos).

The irregular superlatives el mejor and el peor are used to describe nouns as being 'the best' or 'the worst'.

Examples:
	Él es el más inteligente de la clase. He is the most intelligent in the class. el más inteligente meaning ‘the most intelligent
	Él es el menos concentrado de la clase. He is the least focused in the class. el menos concentrado meaning ‘the least focused
	Mi escuela es la mejor escuela de la ciudad. My school is the best school in town. ciudad (f) means 'town'
	Es sin duda el mejor filete de París. It is without a doubt the best steak in Paris. filete (m) means 'steak'
	¿Cuál es el ordenador portátil más barato de Apple? What is Apple's cheapest laptop? ordenador portátil means 'laptop' más barato means 'cheapest'
	Son los chocolates más sabrosos del mundo. They are the tastiest chocolates in the world. más sabrosos means 'tastiest' mundo (m) means 'world'
	¿Dónde puedo comprar las sábanas de algodón más suaves? Where can I buy the softest cotton sheets? sábana (f) means 'sheet algodón (m) means 'cotton' más suaves means 'softest'
	Es la fiesta más divertida de todas. (It) is the funniest party ever. más divertida means 'funniest'
	Él solo compra las fresas más caras y mejores. He only buys the best and most expensive strawberries. fresa (f) means 'strawberry más caras means 'most expensive' mejores means 'best'
	Estos son los caminos más accidentados del país. These are the most rugged roads in the country. camino (m) means 'road' más accidentado means 'most rugged'
	Es su peor canción. (It) is his worst song. peor means 'worst'
	¿Es este tu mejor intento? Is this your best attempt? intento (f) means 'attempt'
	Acabo de despertar del sueño más aterrador. I just woke up from the scariest dream. más aterrador means 'scariest'
	Este semestre, tuve mis peores calificaciones escolares. This semester, I had my worst school grades. semestre (m) means 'semester' peores means 'worst' calificaciones escolares means 'school grades'
	Él es el chico más alto de mi clase. He is the tallest boy in my class. chico (m) means 'boy' más alto means 'tallest'
	¿Cuál crees que es el sabor de helado más popular? What do you think is the most popular flavor of ice cream? sabor (m) means 'flavor' más popular means 'most popular'
	¿Cuál crees que es la flor más hermosa? What do you think is the most beautiful flower? más hermosa means 'most beautiful'
	Él habla el mejor alemán entre mis amigos. He speaks the best German among my friends. alemán (adj.) means 'German'
	Mi padre es el nadador más débil de la familia. My father is the weakest swimmer in the family. nadador (m) means 'swimmer' más débil means 'weakest'
