The Superlative using самый

The superlative is when we say 'the biggest' or 'the best'.

In Russian forming the superlative requires simply adding самый (in its correctly declined form) before the adjective.

The word самый declines as follows in the nominative and prepositional cases:

• nominative: самый (masc.), самая (fem.), самое (neu.), самые (plural)

• prepositional: самом (masc.), самой (fem.), самом (neu.), самых (plural)

The form of the superlative is the same whether it is used 'attributively' (before the noun) or 'predicatively' (after the noun).

самый in this context means 'the most'.

Examples:
	Это самое высокое здание в мире. That is the tallest building in the world. высокое (здание) (nominative, neu.) ⇒ самое высокое (здание)
	Гора Эльбрус – самая высокая гора в России. Mount Elbrus is the highest mountain in Russia. высокая (гора) (nominative, fem.) ⇒ самая высокая (гора)
	Она самая красивая девочка в классе. She is the prettiest girl in the class. красивая (девочка) (nominative, fem.) ⇒ самая красивая (девочка)
	Самая широкая улица в Москве очень широкая. The widest street in Moscow is very wide. широкая (улица) (nominative) ⇒ самая широкая (улица)
	Это худший фильм. That is the worst movie. плохой (фильм) (nominative) ⇒ худший фильм
	Эта комната самая маленькая в нашем доме. That room is the smallest in our house. маленькая (комната) (nominative, fem.) ⇒ самая маленькая (комната)
	Что самое лучшее в этом празднике? What is the best about this holiday? хорошее (nominative) ⇒ самое лучшее
	Твоя машина быстрая, но моя машина самая быстрая. Your (informal) car is fast, but my car is the fastest. быстрая машина (nominative, fem.) ⇒ самая быстрая (машина)
