The Imperative - Part 2

This topic covers the second rule for forming the imperative:

• For verbs whose stem ends in a vowel: Take the 3rd person plural form, drop the ending and add «-й» for the ты form. And «-йте» for the вы form.

Recall: Perfective aspect for a.) one-time requests, and b.) warnings or cautions

Recall: Imperfective aspect for a.) general or repeated requests, b.) social invitations (even if just a one-time action), c.) 'go on - go ahead' prompts and d.) negated commands.

Examples:
	Сделай это быстро! Do (informal) it fast! сделать (perf.) ⇒ сдела- +й ⇒ сделай Perfective because it’s a one-time request with an expected result.
	Подумай об этом Think (informal) about it. подумать (perf.) ⇒ подума- +й ⇒ подумай Perfective because 'Think about IT' suggests it is a one-off request.
	Пожалуйста, дай твой словарь. Please give (informal) (me) your dictionary. дать (perf.) ⇒ да- +й ⇒ дай Perfective because it’s a one-time request with an expected result.
	Закрой дверь Close (informal) the door закрыть (perf.) ⇒ закро- +й ⇒ закрой Perfective because it’s a one-time request with an expected result.
	Не мечтай - сделай уроки! Do not daydream (informal) - do your homework! мечтать (imperf.) ⇒ мечта- +й ⇒ мечтай Imperfective because it’s a negated command.
	Открой окно! Open (informal) the window! открыть (perf.) ⇒ откро- +й ⇒ открой Perfective because it’s a one-time request with an expected result.
	Всегда отвечайте на вопросы учителя. Always answer (plural) the teacher's questions. отвечать (imperf.) ⇒ отвеча- + йте ⇒ отвечайте Imperfective because it’s a general or repeated request.
	Упорно работай! Work (informal) hard! работать (imperf.) ⇒ работа- +й ⇒ работай Imperfective because it’s a general or repeated request.
	Дети! Играйте красиво! Children! Play (plural) nicely! играть (imperf.) ⇒ игра- +йте ⇒ играйте Imperfective because it’s a general or repeated request.
	Давайте - танцуйте! Come on (formal) - dance! танцевать (imperf.) ⇒ танцу- +йте ⇒ танцуйте Imperfective because it’s a social invitation.
	Не стойте здесь! Don't stand (formal) here. стоять (imperf.) ⇒ сто- +йте ⇒ стойте Imperfective because it’s a negated command.
	Не слушай его, он просто шутит. Don't listen (informal) to him, he is just joking. слушать (imperf.) ⇒ слуша- +й ⇒ слушай Imperfective because it’s a negated command.
	Тщательно думайте об этом. Think (formal) carefully about it. думать (imperf.) ⇒ дума- + -йте ⇒ думайте; Imperfective because it’s a general or repeated request.
	Не играй в игры. Don't play (informal) games. играть (imperf.) ⇒ игра- +й ⇒ играй Imperfective because it’s a general or repeated request.
