The words надо and нужно also express requirement though more causally than должен and обязан. The meaning of both words is close to 'to need to'. • надо can only be used with a verb • нужно can be used with both nouns and verbs -- When used with a noun нужно must agree in gender and number. -- нужно declines as follows: нужен (masc.), нужна (fem.), нужно (neu.) and нужны (plural) -- When нужно is used with a verb, use the neuter form: нужно (stress on the first syllable) For both, to include 'who' or 'what' needs or has to do something, use the dative case (eg. мне надо...) When used in the negative, these words can mean 'don't' or 'you shouldn't'. |
