Russian grammar - Numbers and the Genitive Case |
In Russian counting objects take specific grammatical cases depending on the number: • One (1): the object takes the nominative • 2, 3 and 4: the object takes the genitive singular • Numbers ending in 2, 3 and 4 (22, 103 etc.): also take the genitive singular: EXCEPT 12, 13, and 14. • All other numbers (including 12, 13, and 14): take the genitive plural. In these examples the numbers are all in the nominative case. In a later topic we will see how the numbers decline according to case. Also recall that the question сколько? (how many?, how much?) takes the genitive plural. |
