The verb tenir and it's many uses

The verb tenir means 'to hold' or 'to keep' but it has many and varied uses.

Likewise the reflexive form se tenir.

Examples:
Tu peux tenir la lampe, s’il te plaît ?
Can you hold the lamp, please?

Il tenait ses fils par la main.
He held his sons by the hand.
