French grammar - Negation, not - ne pas |
To negate a statement in French we put ne and pas either side of the verb. -- As previously, if the word after ne begins with a vowel then ne contracts to n' and is attached to that word. Note that inverted question forms like est-ce remain attached when negated. So we have n'est-ce pas - 'isn't it?' with the contraction n' and the inverted hyphenated attachment est-ce. |
