Negating the infinitive

An infinitive verb is negated by putting the entire negating pair ne pas (or ne rien etc.) before the infinitive.

If there is a pronoun before the infinitive, ne pas should precede it.

Examples:
	On l'a poussé à ne pas continuer. We urged him not to continue. pousser à (verb) means 'to urge (someone) to do (something)'
	Elle s'est décidée à ne pas aller à l'université. She has made up her mind not to go to university.
	Ils ont commencé à ne plus boire de café aussi souvent. They have started to not drink coffee so often.
	Au moins, j'ai réussi à ne plus vous embrouiller. At least I managed not to confuse you (formal) anymore. au moins means 'at least'
	Je me suis habitué à ne jamais la voir. I got used to never seeing her. The ne pas should precede the preposition
	Il m'a appris à ne pas avoir peur. He taught me not to be scared.
	Nous avons essayé de ne pas rire. We tried not to laugh.
	J'ai peur de ne pas réussir. I'm afraid of not succeeding.
	J'espère ne pas faire d'erreurs. I hope not to make a mistake.
	L'essentiel est de ne pas perdre patience. The main thing is not to lose patience. l'essentiel (m) means 'the main thing' or 'the main part'
	Peux-tu ne pas manger si vite ? Can you (familiar) not eat so fast?
	Elle a averti les enfants de ne pas jouer dans la rue. She warned children not to play in the street. avertir (verb) means 'to warn'
	Les policiers nous ont dit de ne pas nager ici. The police told us not to swim here.
	J'ai décidé de ne plus les manger. I decided not to eat them anymore. ne pas should precede a pronoun before the verb
	Il a décidé de ne pas le vendre. He decided not to sell it. ne pas should precede a pronoun before the verb
	J'espère m'habituer à ne pas te voir tous les jours. I hope to get used to not seeing you (formal) every day.
	Je n'arrive pas à ne pas boire quand je sors avec ces amis. I cannot manage to stop drinking when I go out with these friends.
	Il ne sait pas comment ne pas le renverser quand il boit. He doesn't know how not to spill it when he drinks. ne pas should precede a pronoun before the verb
