More time-related prepositions

In this topic we cover a bunch more common time-related prepositions and expressions:

• dès means 'as soon as' or 'as of' a particular date or event.

• à partir de also means 'from' or 'starting from' a particular time or event.

• jusqu'à means 'up to' or 'until'

• d'ici means 'from now'

• jusqu'ici means 'up till now' or 'so far'

• avant means 'before'

• après means 'after'

• d'ici demain means 'by tomorrow'; d'ici la semaine prochaine etc.

• lors de means '(at some point) during'.

-- Note that lors de does not mean during the entire duration. We use pendant for that.

Examples:
	Il vous appellera dès son retour. He will call you (formal) as soon as he returns.
	Les jeux commencent dès demain. The games start as soon as tomorrow. OR '...as early as tomorrow'
	Je l'ai acheté, et dès le lendemain, il était cassé. I bought it and already the next day it was broken. lendemain (m) means 'the next day'
	Dès le début, je ne lui ai pas fait confiance. Since the start I didn't trust him.
	Les transports en commun seront gratuits dès 2028. Public transport will be free from 2028. transports en commun (m.pl) means 'public transport'
	On dit qu'il cessera de pleuvoir à partir de demain. They say it will stop raining from tomorrow.
	L'hélicoptère sera disponible à partir de lundi prochain. The helicopter will be available from next Monday.
	Je serai ici jusqu'à mardi à peu près. I will be here until about Tuesday. à peu près means 'about' or 'approximately'.
	Il fait généralement chaud jusqu'à la mi-août. It is generally warm until mid-August. mi-mois means 'mid-month' (can also be used with individual month names)
	Jusqu'ici, nous n'avons eu aucun problème. So far we haven't had any problems.
	Il est arrivé avant toi. He arrived before you (familiar).
	Je préfère finir mes devoirs avant de manger. I prefer to finish my homework before I eat.
	Je me suis couché après son départ. I went to bed after he left.
	Je préfère manger après avoir fini mes devoirs. I prefer to eat after finishing my homework.
	J'espère le recevoir d'ici demain. I hope I will receive it by tomorrow.
	Il cessera de neiger d'ici la semaine prochaine. It will stop snowing by next week.
	D'ici la fin de l'année, nous devons avoir rédigé la proposition de travail. By the end of the year, we must have drafted the working proposal.
	Je l'ai rencontré lors de mon stage au bureau. I met him during my internship at the office.
	La police était présente lors de ces événements. The police were present during these events.
	Elle était nerveuse lors de sa présentation. She was nervous (at some point) during her presentation.
