The adjective n'importe can be combined with various pronouns etc. to mean that something is unspecified. • n'importe qui - 'anybody' • n'importe quoi - 'anything' • n'importe où - 'anywhere' • n'importe comment - 'anyhow' • n'importe quel (and quelle, quels, quelles) - 'whichever' • n'importe lequel (and laquelle, lesquels, les quelles) - 'whichever one' • n'importe quand - 'any time' • n'importe combien - 'no matter how much' or 'at any amount/cost' These can be used as both subjects and objects of sentences. And n'importe can be used itself as an interjection meaning 'it doesn't matter' or 'whatever'. N'importe should not be confused with peu importe which means 'doesn't matter' and is somewhat flippant. |
