Asking 'how' or 'why' with 怎么 (zěnme)

To ask 'how' to do something or 'how' something happens in Chinese, we use 怎么 (zěnme).

It can also be used to ask why something is the case, often conveying a sense of surprise or confusion, like 'How can it be that…?'

It can also be used to ask about the reason for a condition or state of something. Like 'how come?'.

And finally, it can also be used to ask about something is done, or method. Like 'In what way?'.
