A time period 'ago' using 前 (qián)

In Chinese, to express some time period 'ago', we use the structure: [time period] + (qián).

Examples:
我一年前开始学中文。
wǒ yī nián qián kāishǐ xué zhōngwén.
I started learning Chinese a year ago.

(qián) means 'before'

她两年前搬到了北京。
tā liǎng nián qián bāndào le běijīng.
She moved to Beijing two years ago.

搬到 (bāndào) means 'to move to'

他们三个月前买了房子。
tāmen sān ge yuè qián mǎi le fángzi.
They bought a house three months ago.
我一个小时前吃了午饭。
wǒ yī ge xiǎoshí qián chī le wǔfàn.
I had lunch an hour ago.
她三天前买了一辆车。
tā sān tiān qián mǎi le yī liàng chē.
She bought a car three days ago.
我们半年前开始工作。
wǒmen bàn nián qián kāishǐ gōngzuò.
We started working half a year ago.

(bàn) means 'half'

我四个月前去了法国。
wǒ sì ge yuè qián qù le fàguó.
I went to France four months ago.
她半个小时前打了电话。
tā bàn ge xiǎoshí qián dǎ le diànhuà.
She called half an hour ago.
我们十年前是同学。
wǒmen shí nián qián shì tóngxué.
We were classmates ten years ago.
他六天前回来了。
tā liù tiān qián huílái le.
He came back six days ago.
她七年前开始工作。
tā qī nián qián kāishǐ gōngzuò.
She started working seven years ago.
他们八个月前结婚了。
tāmen bā ge yuè qián jiéhūn le.
They got married eight months ago.
他们才五分钟前到达。
tāmen cái wǔ fēnzhōng qián dàodá.
They just arrived five minutes ago.

到达 (dàodá) means 'to arrive'
