'How old are you?' - talking about age

In Spanish, asking and talking about age involves using the verb tener ('to have') rather than ser ('to be').

• To ask someone's age, you ask 'How many years do (you) have?' - ¿Cuántos años tienes?.

• To answer, you use the verb tengo + [number] + años ('years').

	Tengo veinte años. (I) am 20 years old.
	¿Cuántos años tiene tu hermana? How old is your sister? tu means 'your'
	Mi hermana tiene quince años. My sister is 15 years old. mi means 'my'

	Él tiene treinta años. He is 30 years old.

	Ellos tienen doce años. They are 12 years old.
	¿Cuántos años tiene tu perro? How old is your dog?
	Mi perro tiene cinco años. My dog is 5 years old.
	Tenía veintiún años cuando me mudé a Londres. (I) was twenty-one when (I) moved to London. veintiún means 'twenty-one'
	No podemos conducir un coche hasta que tengamos diecisiete años. (We) can not drive a car until (we) are 17 years old. poder means 'can' hasta que means 'until'
	Se casó cuando tenía veintisiete años. She got married when she was 27 years old.
