Using 一直 (yìzhí) to indicate continuity

In Chinese, 一直 (yìzhí) is a common adverb that means 'continuously', 'always', or 'all along'.

It can be used with verbs to indicate ongoing actions or with adjectives to indicate a consistent state.

Used negatively with (bù), it means 'never' or 'haven't ever'.

Examples:
她一直看电视。
tā yìzhí kàn diànshì.
She has been (continuously) watching TV.
他一直在等你的电话。
tā yìzhí zài děng nǐ de diànhuà.
He has been waiting for your call (continuously).
她一直想去旅行。
tā yìzhí xiǎng qù lǚxíng.
She has always wanted to go traveling.
我一直听你说话。
wǒ yìzhí tīng nǐ shuōhuà.
I have been listening to you speaking all along.
一直吃到饱。
yìzhí chī dào bǎo.
Keep eating until full.
他一直很诚实。
tā yīzhí hěn chéngshí.
He has always been honest.

诚实 (chéngshí) means 'honest'

我一直在找那本书。
wǒ yìzhí zài zhǎo nà běn shū.
I have been looking for that book (continuously).
我一直很喜欢你。
wǒ yìzhí hěn xǐhuān nǐ.
I have always liked you.
你一直在这家公司工作吗?
