The Chinese word 也许 (yéxǔ) is used to express possibility or uncertainty, equivalent to 'maybe' or 'perhaps' in English. It is commonly used to indicate uncertainty. Note the tone change from yě (3rd tone) to yé (2nd tone) when 也 is followed by a 3rd tone such as is in 许 (xǔ). |
