Chinese grammar - Making comparisions with 比 (bǐ) |

When making direct comparisons in Chinese, we link the two subjects with the particle 比 (bǐ). And the adjective need not be a comparative - just the unchanged adjective. The pattern is: [subject A] + 比 + [subject B] + [adjective]。 |

他比我的哥哥高。
tā bǐ wǒ de gēge gāo. He is taller than my brother.

|
这个比那个贵。
zhè ge bǐ nà ge guì. This (one) is more expensive than that (one). |
|
|
她比我聪明。
tā bǐ wǒ cōngmíng. She is smarter than me. |
|
|
我的房间比你的大。
wǒ de fángjiān bǐ nǐ de dà. My room is bigger than yours. |
|
|
他的中文比我好。
tā de zhōngwén bǐ wǒ hǎo. His Chinese is better than mine. |
|
|
昨天的天气比今天好。
zuótiān de tiānqì bǐ jīntiān hǎo. Yesterday's weather was better than today's. |

|
我上周比这周忙。
wǒ shàngzhōu bǐ zhè zhōu máng. I was busier last week than this week. |
|
|
明天会比今天热。
míngtiān huì bǐ jīntiān rè. Tomorrow will be hotter than today.

|
他以后会比现在更成功。
tā yǐhòu huì bǐ xiànzài gèng chénggōng. He will be more successful in the future than he is now. |

下次会议会比这次更重要。
xiàcì huìyì huì bǐ zhè cì gèng zhòngyào. The next meeting will be more important than this one. |

我们的新项目会比以前更大。
wǒmen de xīn xiàngmù huì bǐ yǐqián gèng dà. Our new project will be bigger than the previous ones. |

|
他比以前高了。
tā bǐ yǐqián gāo le. He is taller than before. |
|
|
今天的任务比昨天多。
jīntiān de rènwù bǐ zuótiān duō. Today's tasks are more than yesterday's. |

|
你的提议比他的好。
nǐ de tíyì bǐ tā de hǎo. Your suggestion is better than his.
|
|
|
在学校他比老师高。
zài xuéxiào tā bǐ lǎoshī gāo. At school, he was taller than the teacher. |
