Expressing need or requirement with 需要 (xūyào)

The Chinese verb 需要 (xūyào) means 'to need' or 'to require'.

It can be used with both countable and uncountable nouns, and it can also be used with verbs to express the need to do something.

Examples:
	我需要一些帮助。 wǒ xūyào yìxiē bāngzhù. I need some help.
	她需要钱。 tā xūyào qián. She needs money.
	我们需要更多时间。 wǒmen xūyào gèng duō shíjiān. We need (much) more time.
	他们需要一个新计划。 tāmen xūyào yí gè xīn jìhuà. They need a new plan. 计划 (jìhuà) means 'plan'
	你需要什么材料？ nǐ xūyào shénme cáiliào? What materials do you need? 材料 (cáiliào) means 'material'
	我需要去买东西。 wǒ xūyào qù mǎi dōngxī. I need to go shopping/buy things.
	我们需要早点出发。 wǒmen xūyào zǎo diǎn chūfā. We need to leave (a bit) early.
	你需要吃药。 nǐ xūyào chīyào. You need to take medicine. 吃药 (chī yào) means 'take medicine'
	这种植物需要很多水。 zhè zhǒng zhíwù xūyào hěn#duō shuǐ. This type of plant needs a lot of water. 植物 (zhíwù) means 'plant'
	我们需要它更大一些。 wǒmen xūyào tā gèng dà yìxiē. We need it to be bigger, please.
	如果你需要它，那就拿吧。 rúguǒ nǐ xūyào tā,#nà jiù ná ba. If you need it, then take it.
	我们需要买最便宜的。 wǒmen xūyào mǎi zuì piányi de. We need to buy the cheapest (one).
	你们什么时候需要它？ nǐmen shénme#shíhou xūyào tā? When will you guys need it?
	我们为什么需要问警察？ wǒmen wèishénme xūyào wèn jǐngchá? Why did we need to ask the policeman? 警察 (jǐngchá) means 'policeman'
	谁需要更多咖啡？ shéi xūyào gèng duō kāfēi? Who needs more coffee?
